Amalfi Coast or Sicily: Which One Is Better For A Honeymoon?
The Amalfi Coast and Sicily are highly sought-after destinations for honeymooners. Visitors can indulge in rich cultural experiences, breathtaking scenery, and exquisite cuisine, providing a perfect blend of leisure and entertainment.
Are you considering a honeymoon vacation at either Amalfi Coast or Sicily? To choose which one is better for your honeymoon really depends on your interest. Amalfi Coast offers stunning views and relaxation, while Sicily provides a bit more than just laidback leisure.

Let’s compare two destinations based on your interests to determine the best honeymoon spot for newlyweds to fully enjoy their time together.
For A Genuine Cultural Experience, Choose Sicily
For me, there is a clear distinction between traveling and vacationing. When I travel, my main goal is to discover and learn about a new country, with a focus on exploring its history, culture, and cuisine. On the other hand, when I vacation, I prioritize relaxation, sleeping, eating, and repeating. With countless vacation destinations available worldwide, honeymooners seeking to visit Italy would find that traveling to Sicily provides the best experience.
Food and Drinks
Sicily boasts some of the most genuine Italian cuisine in the country, and it is readily available. Whether you prefer freshly caught fish straight from the boat or beachside cafes offering an abundance of pizza and antipasto, there are a plethora of dining options to choose from while in Sicily.

Wine
Did you know that Sicily produces some of the most fascinating wines globally? Its vineyards are home to some of the oldest vines that are over a century old. The grapes grow in mineral-rich volcanic soil, giving them a unique taste that many wineries boast about.
Touring
Sicily boasts of having the friendliest and most hospitable locals. You can count on them to guide you towards the island’s top tourist spots. It may be a bit challenging to find someone who speaks fluent English, though.
Furthermore, there are a plethora of exquisite artistic destinations, including museums, theaters, churches, and even castles!
Scenery
Sicily boasts an array of stunning locations perfect for a day out in nature. Explore the white sandy beaches with crystal clear blue waters or bask in the warmth of the inviting cliffside beaches that trace the island’s coastline.
The Mt. Etna hiking area offers some amazing hiking opportunities, including a trail that leads to a stunning waterfall and pool perfect for swimming. It’s a romantic and unforgettable experience for honeymooners to swim in a pool fed by an Italian waterfall.
The Amalfi Coast For A Supreme Relaxation
The Amalfi Coast is a must-visit destination, renowned for its charming towns and luxurious villas. There are numerous cities to explore, and several day-trips that are easily accessible. The world-famous Pompeii is just a 90-minute drive away and is definitely worth a visit. However, if you’re looking to unwind, the Amalfi Coast is the perfect place to do so. While indulging in some exploration may require a bit of extravagant spending, you’ll undoubtedly be impressed with what you discover.

Food and Hospitality
The Amalfi Coast has long been a popular tourist destination, and as a result, its food and hospitality have adapted to meet the needs of visitors. While the cuisine may not be the most authentic Italian, the customer service is consistently top-notch and highly regarded.
Since Amalfi is situated on the coast, you won’t face any difficulties in discovering excellent seafood options. Although the beaches in Amalfi are mostly rocky or made up of pebbles, you’ll be overwhelmed by the plethora of restaurants or bars available in the vicinity.
Scenery
Some argue that the best way to experience the beauty of the Amalfi Coast is from the sea. By taking a boat ride, you can witness the stunning views of the houses and communities that line the coast. The scenery is rich with vivid colors and is a paradise for photographers.
Touring
Amalfi boasts several historic tourist attractions, including a plethora of Arab Sicilian architecture. One could easily spend an entire day admiring the old Roman and Italian structures and homes.
The region is renowned for its unique variety of lemon known as “sfusato amalfitano” that has a rich historical background and is exclusive to this area. These lemons are less sour and offer a delightful sweetness. If you’re visiting during the peak season, it’s highly recommended to book a lemon tour experience.
For The Best For Honeymoon Destination, Choose Sicily
After careful consideration, I would recommend Sicily as the ideal honeymoon destination. In addition to being more affordable than Amalfi, Sicily boasts stunning scenery and a plethora of activities beyond simply lounging on a boat, beach, or at a restaurant. With its diverse and distinctive offerings, newlyweds can enjoy a relaxing yet engaging vacation with plenty of options to suit their preferences.
There are a few considerations before planning a trip to Sicily, however.
Important Things To Know About A Sicilian Honeymoon
Before booking your Sicilian vacation, consider using this checklist to avoid unexpected hassles and to help you budget your trip.
- You will need a car. While there is public transportation available, it can really slow you down and limit your ability to get around. Eliminating the need to rely on busses and trains to get you from one place to the next will allow for a more diverse itinerary and one that allows for some spontaneity. With this in mind, it is not cheap. Parking is sometimes challenging and may require a parking fee (but the freedom is well worth it!). Adding the optimal amount for car insurance is also advised.

- Outside of the popular areas, you’ll feel like you have the whole island to yourself. Sicily boasts several secluded areas, which can be a positive or negative aspect, depending on one’s preference for socializing. For couples seeking a romantic getaway, having the island to themselves can be quite charming. However, if one becomes disoriented, seeking guidance from tourist hubs may be necessary.
- You’ll need at least a week. To fully appreciate all that Sicily has to offer, it’s important to allow yourself ample time for exploration. Rushing through the experience and leaving after just a few days can leave you feeling like you missed out on key aspects. If possible, consider extending your stay to two weeks. While the Amalfi coast can be checked off in a day or two, Sicily deserves at least a week or two to fully indulge in its many offerings and experiences.
- Don’t dress like a slob. You may be on vacation, but wearing your cutoff, tie-dyed tank top is not advised. Dress to impress, the way the Italians do. Men are seen wearing clean collard shirts. Women will be found in beautiful sundresses.
